October 27th, 2016 (Huaibei) Coal-based Olefin New Material & Chemical Products Development Forum was held in Huaibei city. The participating experts pointed out that, the coal chemical industry would replace the traditional petrochemical industry in the construction of industrial chains of both coal-based olefin new material and coal-based aromatics new material with the aim at providing basic materials for new material industry so as to advance the upgrading of coal chemical industry.
A member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and professor of Tsinghua University, Jin Yong, said that, it was very promising to use the coal chemical products as materials instead of fuel. The vice president of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, Zhou Zhuye, believed that, to develop coal-based olefin new materials was a wise choice for the transformation and upgrading, and extension of industrial chain of our country’s coal chemical industry, and the coal chemical industry should focus on the development of new type of polyolefine resin, and at the same time, make researches on ethylene and propylene downstream products by relying on petrochemical technologies.
He also pointed out that, there was a strong momentum in the development of our country’s coal-based olefin industry. To the end of 2015, the capacity of coal-based olefin industry has reached 7,920,000 tons with a whole year output of 6,480,000 tons. The DMTO technology, developed by Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been put into industrial production, which provides technical support for the coal-based olefin new material industrial chain. According to press reports, our country is currently running and building coal-based olefin projects, and will release olefin capacity of 15million tons to the market in the future three to five years.
Director of petrochemical department of China Petroleum & Chemical Planning Institute, Zheng Baoshan, also agreed with the aforesaid views. He said that, to produce bulk chemical raw materials like olefin, aromatics, etc. from coal will not only change the situation of single-source of raw materials, but at the same time, will help to lower the raw material costs of new material industry so as to advance the development of downstream organic chemical and refined chemical industry.
Zheng Baoshan also made recommendations on the development of coal-based new materials: the coal chemical enterprises located in areas of underdeveloped logistics should focus on the development of polyolefin like the development of high-end polyolefin including EVA resin, polybutylene, polyethylene, and PP special material, etc.; as to the coal chemical enterprises located in areas of convenient logistics could moderately develop organic raw material products to improve their market competitiveness, especially the products produced by the combination of coal chemical industry and petrochemical industry, such as oxo alcohols, and acrylonitrile, etc.
“While developing coal-based olefin new materials, our country still needs to construct the coal-based aromatics new material industrial chain,” introduced by Senior engineer and professor of China Huadian Corporation, Wang Tong, “during the 13th five-year plan, new material industry will put great efforts in the technology improvement of PAEK and PEN, PCT/PVT resin, PPS, engineering nylon, etc., and advancing the development of long carbon chain nylon, high temperature resistant nylon, and PETG, etc., all of which are products with aromatics as the principal raw material. Therefore, there is great potential for the development of coal-based aromatics new material industrial chain, the coal chemical enterprises should consciously produce aromatics products while develop coal-based olefin technologies, so as to establish a reasonable product structure.”
“Huaibei city has been focusing on the coal chemical (new type coal chemical synthetic materials) base construction in recent years with the aim at building new type coal chemical industry. Secretary of Huaibei Municipal Committee, and Director of Huaibei Municipal People’s Congress, Huang Xiaowu, said that, “The participating experts’ suggestions are very inspiring to us, and Huaibei city will put great efforts in the development of new type coal chemical synthetic products by relying on its advantages in coal resources and industry.”
