The 2016 China Petroleum & Chemical International Conference ends successfully

Recently, the 2016 (7th) China Petroleum & Chemical Industry Conference (CPCIC) focusing on “new normal, new energy and new competitive power” and held by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) jointly, under the support of Shanghai Municipal People's Government, came to an end in Jing An Shangri-la. More than 1200 guests from governments, international organizations, domestic and foreign upstream and downstream enterprises, terminal market, service providers and the media gathered here, and discussed the development trend of the global petrochemical industry and other hot topics; Zhou Bo, Deputy Mayor of Shanghai Municipal People's Government, Li Shousheng, President of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, and Liu Guchang, Director of China Foundation for International Studies, had attended the Conference and given speeches. 

Currently, with slowdown in world economic growth, decreasing international trade growth rate and depth adjustment of the global petrochemical industry, China petrochemical industry is also in the critical moment of innovation, development, transformation and upgrading. Under such background, the Conference is themed “new normal, new energy and new competitive power” to provide a pragmatic discussion, in-depth exchange, cooperation and linkage development platform for domestic and foreign industry colleagues. More than and 50 national government officials and industry representatives all over the world (United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Industrial Development Organization and ICCSS, etc.) and main leaders of more than 50 world's leading petrochemical enterprises (BASF, Evonik, Lanxess, Clariant, Sinopec, China Blue Chmecial, Sinochem Corporation and ChemChina) had attended the Conference. 
 

 
8 largest petrochemical giants all around the world gathered here to explore how to create a new competitive power under the new normal. Management of Clariant, Lanxess, Cabot, BASF, SABIC, Sinopec, Sinochem Corporation and ChemChina elaborated the enterprise development strategy under the "new normal” from different perspectives. Gan Shangjie, member of Executive Board of BASF, said: “as a leading enterprise in the chemical industry, BASF invests in sustainable development, which is not only to maintain our business license, but also to promote innovation. We are committed to providing customers with solutions that meet their economic, social and environmental targets.” As viewed by Clariant, the “new competitive power” established by the foreign-funded chemical enterprise is to establish strategies adapting to the Chinese market and truly focus on the development of local market, especially local innovation enhancement, to meet the demands of the Chinese market for environmental protection and growth of innovative products; the experience on environmental protection in aspects, such as green manufacturing, in the process of European development shall be referred, so as to continuously improve the competitiveness of the company in the field of sustainable development in china. 

 
Excellent cases related to “cooperation creating future” are released. The Conference released the excellent cases on cooperation and innovation in key development directions and fields. 

 
Liu Zhongmin, Deputy Director of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, together with innovation champions of Evonik, Clariant, Covestro and Huayi Group discussed how to realize the efficient use of innovative resources with the help of synergy. 

 
China Petroleum and Chemical International Production Capacity Cooperative Enterprise Alliance (namely alliance of petrochemical industries for going out) was started. In order to implement the national “One Belt and One Road” strategy, deal with the situation of excess capacity in the petrochemical industries collaboratively and guide enterprises to effectively carry out international production capacity cooperation, China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, entrusted by NDRC, built a platform for cooperation of parties related in China Petroleum and Chemical International Production Capacity Cooperative Enterprise Alliance, to provide support for overseas development of China’s petrochemical industries. In the Conference, Sinopec, China Blue Chmecial Ltd., Sinochem Corporation, China National Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. and Yanchang Petroleum, as the representatives of Alliance founding units, started the Alliance together. 

 
The Alliance will focus on promoting and guiding the international capacity cooperation of the China petrochemical industries and highlight the industry features based on the principle of “discussing, building and winning together”, integrating internal and external resources and playing the advantage of consolidation combined with enterprise needs and with the member enterprises put at a leading position and major countries and industries as key focusing points, to establish internal industry "going out" communication and coordination linkage mechanism internally, and build a bilateral multilateral cooperation mechanism with the key countries and regions and a network for market cooperation with third parties externally, advancing multi-level and multi-channel industrial coordination and enterprise cooperation and promoting policy and information communication, financial intermediation and industry collaboration.

Building a platform for dialogue between government and enterprises and promoting the rational investment layout of the industry. Leaders of zhangjiagang, Puyang, Panjin and other chemical industry cities and the whole regions attended the Mayors Forum, carrying out high-end dialogue with Dow Chemical Company and other Chinese and foreign petrochemical enterprises and cooperating the projects, to jointly promote the scientific planning and rational distribution of the industry and build a sustainable regional industrial ecosystem. 

 
In order to explore the role of chemistry in sustainable development to guide the development of the global chemical industries, during ICCA-UNEP Session from September 11 to 13, multinational industry leaders shared the advanced concepts and experience for green development and jointly explored the positive role and practical challenges of chemistry in the process of sustainable development of the global industries.
